Title : An Instructional Model for Developing Writing Skills of the Mathayom 3 students.

The purposes of this research were to 1) develop an instructional model for developing
writing skills of the ninth-graders, 2) study students’ abilities in writing, and 3) study the Mathayom 3 students use of writing strategies. The research procedure comprised three phases as 1) a documentary analysis and a case study for the contextual study 2) the development of the instructional model using an action research 3) the evaluation of the use of the instructional model posttest design. The target groups consisted of 5 teachers experienced in teaching English writing and the 36 ninth – graders of class 3/1 in Nernyangprachasamakkee school. The research instruments employed at the phases were an opinion survey form, an interview form, think aloud protocol, an efficient writing test, a teaching record form, a behavioral observation form, a learning and instructional interview form, a learning record form, and a reflection form. The data were then analyzed and presented in percentages, means, and standard deviation. The t-test was used to prove statistical significance. The findings revealed that the five-stage model include 1) motivating and setting goals 2) activating knowledge 3) accessing writing strategies 4) practicing and 5) implementing stages was effective in developing the students’ writing abilities and writing strategy uses. Students’ scores in the posttest were significantly higher than those in the pretest at the level of .01. Moreover, the students used writing strategies learned in class when creating a text.
