The purposes of this research were: 1)to develop and test the efficiency of communicative reading strategy exercisefrom Mathayomsuksa 5 students following the criteria: 80/80. 2) to study and compare the English reading ability of Mathayomsuksa 5 students before and after learning using communicative reading strategy exercise, and 3) to study the students’ attitude towards teaching English reading using communicative reading strategy exercise.The sample group consisted of 30 Mathayomsuksa 5 students by purposive selection at Rajaprachanukhor 14 School, Khaibokwan Sub-district, Muang District, Nongkhai Province, under Nongkhai Primary Educational Service Area office 1, in the second semester of the academic year 2013. The study methodology was a one group pretest-posttest design.The research instruments were 24 modules from communicative reading strategy exercise, 24 lesson plans, an English reading ability test and an attitude-evaluation form. The experiment lasted 3 weeks, 8 hours a week, or 24 hours in total. The mean, percentage, standard deviation
and t-test for Dependent samples were employed to analyze the data.The findings of this research were as follows:
1. The efficiency of the material was 81.03 for the English formative test and 82.00 for the posttest. Therefore, communicative reading strategy exercisewas highly effective.
2. The pretest mean score was 53.56percent and the posttest mean score was 82.00percent. The English reading abilities of Mathayomsuksa 5 students after learning using communicative reading strategy exercisewere significantly higher than prior at the .01 level.
3. The students’ attitude towards teaching English speaking using the compensatory communication strategies were at a good level.
